This was the inaugural
run! Twenty five runners/walkers turned out for the event. The
course was challenging ....run on a 1 mile path thru a pasture, then 1
mile of unpaved country roads and then 1 mile of blacktop pavement to the
finish (a loop course with some good hills). Registered participants were
treated to a free breakfast at the Tampico
Store. Also a Tampico Days shirt with
"Sagebrush Run" stenciled on the back. The run was well organized
with 4 wheelers stationed at major turns on the course....all had portable
radios and most were local volunteers with ambulance and fire
fighters. There were nice medals for age group winners. We
had cool, overcast running weather....it was a fine day
for a fun run! Tampico Days also included
special events such as a parade, music and barbecue. Fun run particpants enjoyed it and indicated they will be
back! I think this one is here to stay. Thanks to all of the
volunteers and to Race Director Gailon Gentry.
Eric
P.S. Tampico organizers are talking about adding an additional
long distance Mountain "Trail" Run next year (e.g., marathon to 50K
type distance) ...perhaps a week before Tampico
Days. Stay tuned.
